Holger Mohaupt
My work is characterized by a particular form of temporality in which the experience of seeing is itself brought into focus. Guy Debord's 'Theory of the Derive' informs an important part of my creative practice. The dérive is for me a critical tool for understanding and developing ideas. In French, dérive means drifting. Developed in the 1950s in Paris by The Situationist International group. A dérive aims to break down and renew your everyday relations with the spaces around you. I develop cycle routes (ArtCycles) with Debords derive in mind, cycling without a destination following instead what catches your interest. I filmed the material for Grun while out on a drive (drift).
