Judith Shaylor
As a multidisciplinary artist, I am always looking for new ways to have a conversation with my audience. For many years I have explored photography. Each photograph often tells a story and is sometimes staged. Video and moving images are new genres to me, but in receiving the open call "Drift," I decided to challenge myself by combining still photography with video. I chose to upload to the app "Stop Motion Studio"- a series of stills I had taken at high shutter speed. The majority were from two series entitled "gloves" and "Gold leaf on a Levante breeze," both sets I had photographed when I lived in a small town in Southern Spain called Tarifa. Here a strong wind is prevalent and is called Levante. The word drift immediately conjured up the idea of moving either with or against a breeze. I chose stills and videos to capture this idea.
