Briony's work engages closely with landscape, particularly the north-east coast of Scotland where she grew up, and of the Solway coast, close to where she now lives. Suggesting landscape, rather than describing, she mostly focuses on the meeting of land, sea and sky – untraceable edges. Working mostly on paper, abstract marks take on pictorial elements of landscape and colours are often quiet, suggesting distanced encounters with the land.
