The sea can be hopeful, or peaceful, or it can be tumultuous and wild. On this day, I was watching waves through a cabin window, hoping our boat would withstand their force. At the same time, light hit the surface of the water nearby and seabirds coasted by. The birds looked so at ease with it all, in contrast with their human onlooker. I was warm, dry and sheltered from the harsh reality outside. This image represents a sense of wonder at nature, but also a disconnection from it.
