This sculpture is a maquette for a machine to remover or filter nurdles (microplastic particles). Our oceans are full of these deadly particles that get ingested by animals. The piece is, ironically made of many different materials, some found on the beach. I find beachcombing relaxing and meditative, as well as being aware of the damage these plastics are doing to the ecosystem. The sculpture alludes to function, in a playful way.
