Andrew Phillips
The making of this piece spanned a period of relocation. Begun in early 2020 whilst living in Edinburgh, the work was completed several months later in my new home of Newport, south east Wales. This is a return to where I first began to draw and paint imaginal landscapes, whilst studying here over a decade ago. With New Light I sought to evoke a sense of darkening and fading, the dusk and twilight of transience, coexisting with something luminous and eternal. The materials have been applied using different techniques; paint by brush, ink with a dip-pen, pastel crumbled and worked by hand.
