The Vestige of Nuzzling IV is one of a series of eight monoprints as performance documentation. Through the performance, the body is used as the printing matrix capturing the marks and traces of an action. The intimate act of nuzzling carried out by the artist rolling and rubbing their face repeatedly across sheets of paper. This gesture isn't choreographed, but rather instinctive, differing and altering with each pass or pull against the paper. Lipstick is used in place of ink, the transparency of this medium creates a subtle, ghostlike print, allowing for layering of gesture and imagery. This material quality invokes a sense of nostalgia and memory, emphasising the intimate nature the action can possess; these moments will return but, until then, the thought of them is one to reminisce over and the anticipation of having them again continues to build.
