Finlay Coupar
This work is priced unframed.
Having created a number of lino prints using cutting tools I became disenchanted with the predictability of the marks created by the tools. The whole method became too intentional and began to resemble a craft process rather than an artistic one. I therefore resolved to utilise a cutting /removal process that was less controllable and more open to unexpected results. In achieving this I experimented with caustic soda and electric drills and, ultimately, as in this example, used an electric engraving tool and a Dremmel - with a selection of heads for cutting, sanding and abrading. This resulted in a range cuts and abrasions and consequently a range of textures that were not readily achievable with traditional lino cutting tools. These textures in turn, offered in printing and overprinting, a richer overlay of colour than that usually associated with lino printing.
