The story of Daphne who had been turned into a laurel tree as she escaped from the advances of Apollo transfixed me during lockdown. I thought about the ideas of freedom and confinement, especially in early lockdown, and wondered what his story had to say had resilience in the face of sudden transformation of personal circumstances. I wanted to portray Daphne empowered - within nature. A sort of returning to a natural state - rather than confinement.
