My work is generally printmaking, based on photographic images particularly geometric constructions. Habitually, I fold paper into various geometric structures and photograph them, usually under natural light. The images are significantly processed in Photoshop before being made into soft, subtle etchings. Whilst walking my dog along Portobello beach, I came across this geometric structure within the waves, which I found fascinating. I have long been interested in the black square and had recently purchased a book entitled 'Adventures of a Black Square', which explores the universal visual language of geometric abstraction. I photographed and filmed the action of the waves on this emerging square on my rather old mobile phone. The resulting images are a bit grainy, but however, capture the moment of a geometric structure emerging from the turbulent sea.
