I find the textures of the threads work so well with the patterning and subtle...'In my work I often make use of antique textiles that have seen some life! I find the textures of the threads work so well with the patterning and subtle textures of wings of butterflies and moths. In addition I like the play of moths on silk - normally something that would be a combination of horrors! In this piece, the silk was salvaged from a French chateau, where it was used as a bed canopy. The textile is roughly the same era as the frame and the moths themselves… precious survivors from a 1901 collection.'
