The Citadel is composed of gilded honeybees inside an antique industrial circuit-breaker. I was inspired by an article highlighting the recent discovery that that bees harness electricity. Electrical fields build up on honeybee bodies as they fly, flutter or rub their body parts together, and new research suggests bees use these electrical currents to communicate. The title was inspired by a book about the comings and goings in a small village in the 1930s (the same era as the circuit-breaker), and how the complex social structures of bee colonies might reflect of our own.'
