I discovered a quantity of broken records, whilst out walking my dog, in the remains of an old tip site at the back of a Victorian House (once used as a residential care home). The fragmented shapes and running grooves reminded me of some old etching plates of mine and so the die was cast. I began experimenting with compositions and colours, exploring the spaces created (the breaks in sound). Much of my practice is inspired by found objects and I remember the joy of purchasing my first L.P. (which I still have). These broken record parts are relics of a bygone era, devoid of labels we can only guess at the genre of music or the audience that listened to them. I choose to celebrate their muteness and let them talk visually.
