This work is created by layering mono-printed elements with delicate washes of oil paint and hand drawn graphic elements. These are actually tracings from acetates used to screen print circuit boards. They suggest abstract musical notation, with pauses, spaces in between. Metaphors abound, chiming with the shared experiences and new vocabulary of recent times: circuit breakers, suspended time and motion.
The Japanese concept of Ma relates to the space in between. Ma can be described as empty space, as a gap between one thing and another, or as a pause within movement or flow.
Yet it is much more than empty space - Ma describes the essence or intention that is felt or experienced in that space.2of 2
