The conceptual background of my creative practice project stems from my long-standing interest in modern figuration, combined with weekly sketching of every-day life whether in Dumfries and Galloway — or on travels abroad, such as to Brittany and Croatia.
I am telling tales with these works. My work is expressive and hence an abstraction of reality: my reaction to scene expresses my synthesis of reality to my audience. In an age of AI, I mostly follow an analogue path.
The critical and contextual concepts in my preliminary development and completed artefact are influenced by modern artists of the late 19th and 20th centuries: James Ensor, Paula Rego, Joan Eardley, RB Kitaj.
I am a roaming cosmopolitan, a traveller -- by nature, a flâneur.
