Works from this set are often named for the height the painted sea reaches upon the surface’s face. Here, the support is a 1950s steel advertisement for Spido motor-oil. So chosen for sea-rise is occurring as a result of warming and expanding sea-water – heated in part by emissions from transportation, trapped in the atmosphere, inhibiting the Earth’s natural cooling process. We are, quite literally, driving sea levels upward.
